Police beat May 4
Two injured: While traveling west on Interstate 70 about 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Zachary T. Zita fell asleep while driving and crashed into the rear of a vehicle being driven by Christina A. Toras, 50, of Pittsburgh, police said. Zita’s vehicle went off the road and flipped in the grass median. Both drivers were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
Chain-reaction crash: Five vehicles were involved in a pile-up on Interstate 79 near mile marker 47.7 Friday about 4:45 p.m., police said. Cars were slowing down because of traffic, and a vehicle driven by Jason W. Dipner, 35, of Glenshaw, rear-ended a vehicle driven by Brittani J. Berkeley, 27, of Pittsburgh. Berkeley’s car then struck the rear of a vehicle driven by William H. Homistek, 64, of Carmichaels. Homistek’s car, in turn, hit the back of a vehicle driven by Dennis G. Buren, 65, of Girard. At the time Dipner’s car hit Berkeley’s vehicle, a vehicle driven by Patricia L. Kelly, 31, of Amity, rear-ended Dipner’s car. Berkeley sustained a minor injury. No one else was injured. Dipner and Kelly are being charged with following too closely.
