Area man arrested in bar stabbing
A Chartiers Township man was arrested after allegedly stabbing another man outside a North Strabane Township bar early Sunday.
Rene Armando Borjas-Pazo, 30, of 126 Third St., was taken into custody after he was found sitting on the back steps of the home where he has been staying.
North Strabane police were called just before 2:30 a.m. after a man told a 911 dispatcher that he had been hit with a Taser outside Rita’s Cantina, 250 Latimer Ave., Strabane. The victim, later identified as 30-year-old Edward Raymond Scott, was found lying on the ground outside another Strabane bar.
Police said Scott was highly intoxicated and complaining he had been hit with the Taser. Police could see a large amount of blood coming from his back. When the officer removed Scott’s jacket, he could see the stab wound.
Scott told police that he was at Rita’s when another man approached him and asked him to leave. Scott was outside standing next to the building when he was stabbed. Scott was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment. Police were given a description of his assailant.
Chartiers police were sent to 126 Third for a report of a man threatening another man with a knife. Jennifer Smith, whose mother owns Rita’s Cantina, told police that her boyfriend, Gabriel Lopez, got into an altercation with another man. Lopez told police that Borjas-Pazo stabbed Scott for no apparent reason. Borjas-Pazo reportedly told Lopez that Scott had been talking about him.
Police said they also learned that Borjas-Pazo had a previous incident at the bar in which he got into a fight with another man and reportedly had taken a steak knife with him for protection.
Borjas-Pazo was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on charges of aggravated assault, possession of instruments of a crime and reckless endangerment. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for May 12 before District Judge Jay Weller.
Further information about the extent of Scott’s injuries was not available.
