Businesses warned of possible ad scam

1 min read

WAYNESBURG – The Waynesburg Area Chamber of Commerce is notifying its members to be aware of an advertising solicitation scam perpetrated by a company called Sterling Business Promotions.

Melody Longstreth, the chamber’s executive director, said Tuesday the company is calling businesses seeking information in order to sell advertising in something it is calling a Community Service Directory.

Longstreth said the company is representing itself as being a private consultant for the county, but when she contacted Jeff Marshall, the county’s chief clerk, he confirmed the county is not working with any company called Sterling Business Promotions.

Moreover, Longstreth called the company and asked who it was dealing with locally. The reply was the Waynesburg Chamber of Commerce. “You can imagine the ear full they received on that answer,” Longstreth said.

Longstreth wants to make sure local businesses know that neither the county nor the chamber has any association with Sterling Business Promotions.
