Hard to recycle event on Saturday
The Pennsylvania Resources Council will host a “hard-to-recycle” collection to enable individuals to drop off e-waste such as computers, cellphones, printer/toner cartridges, televisions, CFLs, microwave ovens, used vegetable/cooking oil and polystyrene packaging material from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Consol Energy Park in North Franklin Township.
“Our biggest challenge at these collections is the sheer volume of old television sets dropped off,” said PRC Regional Director Justin Stockdale. “While the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has banned TVs from landfills, very few resources are available to the public to support the collection of TVs for recycling. PRC relies on participants’ financial support to host the events and is suggesting a $5 donation per television be made to ensure PRC can continue to host these vital collection events.”
While most items – including computers and cellphones – will be collected free of charge, individuals will pay a nominal fee to drop off alkaline batteries, tires, small Freon appliances, fluorescent tubes, vacuum cleaners and small kitchen appliances.
