Carroll Twp. to receive grant to expand recycling project
Carroll Township’s successful yard waste recycling efforts have earned the municipality a $153,606 state grant to expand the project.
The money will be used to purchase a tree branch chipper, two leaf vacuums and expand the collection site near the township building on Baird Avenue, said Dave Barkey, who heads the township’s road department.
The township will receive the money under the state Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act, which rewards municipalities for their recycling efforts, state lawmakers announced Tuesday.
The township collects tree branches, grass and leaves and allows them to turn into mulch, which is distributed back for free to the community.
