1 min read

A Charleroi man is facing charges he nearly pushed a woman carrying a young child over a balcony during a disturbance at his residence Wednesday night.

Charleroi Regional police arrested Karl R. Leggett, 33, of 526 Fallowfield Ave., on a string of charges after responding about 8:30 p.m. to that area, where many people claimed to have witnessed the woman and infant nearly get pushed over a second-floor railing, court records state.

The officer said he was met by frantic witnesses who were pointing to Leggett’s address, where he could hear screams, the affidavit indicates.

Police went to the apartment, knocked on the door and it was opened by Leggett, allowing the officer to see the victim, Sunsaine Dowell, holding a 1-year-old child who was crying hysterically, the record states.

There were three other children in the apartment, where broken items were scattered about the floor. Leggett was taken into custody after, police allege, one of the witnesses identified him as the suspect.

He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and harassment.

He is in Washington County Jail on $35,000 bond set by District Judge Larry Hopkins.
