Charleroi Regional police chief to retire
The chief of Charleroi Regional police will retire May 23 after working in borough law enforcement for nearly three decades.
Michael Matyas submitted his notice of retirement Thursday to Charleroi Borough and the regional police board.
The regional police department formed in 2012 to patrol the borough, Speers, North Charleroi and Twilight.
“I have made a lot of friends in those 26 years with the public and with police officers throughout the Valley, and especially with the officers of this department, all of (whom) will be greatly missed,” Matyas stated in his retirement notice.
Charleroi Mayor John Mollenauer said the procedures for naming a new police chief will be discussed Wednesday at the regional police board meeting.
Matyas is on vacation and could not be reached Friday.
