There was a time not long ago when children did not have video games or even television to occupy their time during those long days of summer vacation. Back then, they looked for amusement of their own devices.

With the employment of a table and a length of cloth, these young ladies created a stage on which to play. But this photo from the Observer-Reporter archives lacks the names of the players. In fact, we have no information about this performance. The only thing we do know is that the picture was taken in the late 1940s. Who the girls are, what they were doing or where they were playing is a mystery we hope our readers can help us solve.

It’s obvious this event took place in a park, so perhaps the play was part of some municipal summer program. The child in the middle is dressed as a scarecrow. If the players are still living, they would be in their mid to late 70s by now.
