Woman falls from transit bus after rear doors open
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Pittsburgh-area transit bus was pulled from service because a woman fell from the vehicle after its rear doors reportedly opened unexpectedly while rounding a corner.
The Port Authority of Allegheny County said the incident happened about 6 p.m. Friday in downtown Pittsburgh.
Transit spokesman Jim Ritchie isn’t identifying the bus driver or the passenger who fell from the vehicle. She was taken to UPMC Mercy hospital but her condition was unclear Sunday. Ritchie said police told him the woman’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
The doors are typically controlled by the driver, though there is an emergency release near the rear doors. Still, Ritchie said, it would take some force to open the doors.
The bus has been pulled out of service so it can be inspected.
