Natural gas pipeline would cross Pa.
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) – A U.S. senator from West Virginia said the natural gas industry plans a pipeline to bring gas from south central Pennsylvania to North Carolina.
Aides to Sen. Joe Manchin told the Cumberland Times-News that Houston-based Spectra Energy proposed a 427-mile pipeline running from a compressor station in Bedford, across Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia to a Duke Energy facility in North Carolina.
The newspaper reported Monday the underground pipeline would enter Maryland near Flintstone and continue through Oldtown, where it would cross the Potomac River into Green Spring, West Virginia.
Manchin’s office said he’s gathering information about the proposed $4 billion pipeline.
Spectra is a pipeline builder and operator.
Manchin’s office said said the project is four years from completion and would require federal regulatory approval.
