Man struck by train in Speers

A North Belle Vernon man suffered a severe head injury when he was struck by a Norfolk Southern train in Speers Thursday morning.

Charleroi Regional police said Shaun Kovacs, 26, was flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital after being struck by the train about 7:25 a.m. behind Campy’s Pizza, 119 Route 88. Police referred additional comment on the investigation to the railroad.
