Two men killed by train were walking on tracks
KING OF PRUSSIA – A Chicago-bound freight train struck and killed two men who police said were walking in the middle of the tracks in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Police said Saturday that the Norfolk Southern train struck them from behind around 7:30 a.m. and they died instantly.
No information about the identities of the victims was available.
Lower Merion police said the men were walking by an abandoned Valley Forge National Historical Park train station.
Norfolk Southern spokesman Dave Pidgeon said he doesn’t know how fast the westbound train was traveling when it struck the pedestrians, but said the track speed is 50 miles per hour.
Pidgeon said the train’s two crew members weren’t hurt.
