Farm Bureau food drive netted more than 11,000 pounds in donations
The final total of canned goods and cleaning supplies collected this year in a drive for Greater Washington County Food Bank was 11,611 pounds, the organizer announced.
Washington County Farm Bureau and Penn State Extension hold their drive to fill the gap in donations between the New Year and the arrival of spring.
The goal was 13,000 pounds, up from the more than six tons of food and supplies donated last year.
“I am very pleased with the outcome of the food drive,” said Farm Bureau organizer Don Carter. “We missed our goal for this year, but that makes me even more determined for next year.
“We saw a lot of positive ideas in this year’s food drive. We received more donations through the local libraries. This has given us the idea of working with the local libraries, schools and businesses to promote the support of the local food pantries. We also saw more donations from Washington County employees and organizations.”
