WAYNESBURG – The Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation recently awarded five scholarships to graduating high school seniors, one from each of the local school districts. The winners, who will each receive $2,000, all intend to pursue a career in healthcare.

The recipients are Kaylee Boosel from Carmichaels School District, Jonathan Coote from West Greene School District, Jenna Hellen from Jefferson-Morgan School District, Kyle McIntire from Southeastern Greene School District and Courtney Patterson from Central Greene School District.

Boosel plans to pursue a degree in exercise science/physical therapy at Slippery Rock University; Coote plans to pursue a degree in biology/pre-med at Hillsdale College; Hellen plans to pursue a degree in nursing at Waynesburg University; McIntire plans to pursue a degree in physical therapy at Slippery Rock University; and Patterson plans to pursue a degree in pharmacology at Duquesne University.

This is the eighth consecutive year GCMHF awarded healthcare scholarships to graduating seniors from Greene County. Combined with various nursing and medical student tuition assistance programs, GCMHF plans to award more than $50,000 this year to Greene County students pursuing medical degrees.

Jay Hammers, GCMHF president said “We are thrilled to be able to provide this level of funding to area students and we look forward to their return and positive impact on the healthcare of our community”.

The GCMH Foundation is the largest nonprofit philanthropic organization headquartered in Greene County, with assets exceeding $12 million. Its mission is to provide funding for health care related programs designed to benefit Greene County residents. In addition to funding various health care initiatives throughout the county, it also operates the Foundation for Wellness fitness facility located on the first floor of the Southwest Regional Medical Center.

Typically, donations made to the foundation are tax deductible.
