Two county pools set to open today
WAYNESBURG – Two of Greene County’s three public pools will open for the first swim of the season Saturday. Alpha Aquatic Center in Waynesburg will open at noon, and Carmichaels Pool in Carmichaels will open at 1 p.m. during the three-day Memorial Day weekend.
Following Memorial Day, Alpha Aquatic Center and Carmichaels Pool will be closed while school is in session from May 27 through May 30, and will be open daily beginning May 31.
The third county pool, Mon View Pool in Greensboro, is currently undergoing an $800,000 renovation project and will be closed for the duration of that project. The pool will reopen later this summer once construction is complete.
All pool admission prices will remain the same as last year. County children attending Day Camp will still pay a discounted rate of $2 per day to visit any of the pools during the camp hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 16 to July 25.
Aquatic center hours will be noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission prices are $5 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $7 for adults ages 18 to 61. Season memberships for a family of four start at $379, plus $60 for a fifth person, $50 for a sixth person and $40 for a seventh person. Individual season memberships are $140 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $170 for adults ages 18 to 61. Swimming lessons are $25 per person.
The aquatic center features a 330,000-gallon competition-sized pool with eight lap lanes, two diving boards and a 12-foot diving pool; a 40-by-40-foot children’s play area including a 148-foot spiral water slide, a 25-foot straight water slide, a 180-foot “lazy river” with tubes for floating, water jets and other play equipment; a bathhouse with lockers, restrooms, showers and changing facilities; and a concession stand and seating area. A community room is available onsite to rent for birthdays or other special events in June and July. The fee is $45 to rent for two hours, from either 1 to 3 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m.
At Carmichaels Pool, hours will be 1 to 7 p.m. daily. Admission rates are $3 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $5 for adults ages 18 to 61. Season memberships for a family of four are $219 for county residents and $249 for non-county residents, plus $50 for each additional person. Individual memberships are $120 for children age 17 and younger and senior citizens age 62 and older, and $150 for adults ages 18 to 61. Swimming lessons are $25 per person.
Carmichaels Pool features a 300,000-gallon Z-shaped pool, a diving board, an 11-foot diving pool, an 8-foot water slide and a 70-foot spiral water slide, a 15-by-15-foot children’s play area, lockers, restrooms, showers, changing facilities and snack machines. The facility will also be available to rent for parties from 7 to 9 p.m. in June and July. The cost is $80 without the use of the spiral water slide or $120 with the slide. Parties of 100 guests or more will cost an additional $40.
Once completed, Mon View Pool will feature a water slide, climbing wall and a 4,000-gallon, zero-depth-entry children’s play area with a bench and sprinklers. The reopening date, admission prices and hours for Mon View Pool will be announced later. Five of the eight picnic pavilions at Mon View Park are also available to rent at various rates.
Pools will be closed Aug. 25 through Aug. 29, and will reopen Aug. 30 for the Labor Day holiday weekend. All pools will close for the season on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1.
