Bond reduction denied in Weirton explosives case
NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. (AP) – A magistrate had refused to reduce bond for a man accused of placing explosive devices outside the Weirton Municipal Building.
Weirton police charged 23-year-old David Jared Patterson last week with three counts of criminal use of an explosive device.
Media outlets report that Patterson appeared in Hancock County Magistrate Court on Friday. Magistrate Michael S. White denied a defense request to reduce Patterson’s bond from $150,000 to $20,000 or less.
Patterson remains in custody at the Northern Regional jail.
Weirton Police Chief Bruce Marshall has said police found two chemical explosive devices outside of the Municipal Building on May 5. A third device was near a police cruiser.
