Avella to graduate 65 Thursday
Avella Area High School will graduate 65 seniors at its commencement at 7 p.m. May 29 on the football field at Avella Junior-Senior High School.
Valedictorian is Maria Villotti, and salutatorian is Alayne Johnson.
Villotti is a daughter of Beth and Lew Villotti of Avella.
Villotti achieved National Merit Scholar commendation, The Challenge Program Academic Excellence Award, Zia Rosa Scholarship and Envirothon Scholarship. She served as captain of the volleyball team, senior class president, National Honor Society vice president, Science Club president and Academic Team president.
She also enjoys dancing, as well as coaching U6 soccer.
She plans to attend Dickinson College and pursue a degree in history.
Johnson is a daughter of Fran and John Skariot of Avella.
Johnson achieved perfect attendance, the SHASDA award and a Silver Key in the Scholastic Writing Awards contest. She participated in the musical, community service, youth group, Vacation Bible School and was a member of the art club.
Johnson also served as secretary of National Honor Society.
Johnson plans to attend Community College of Allegheny County for two years and transfer to a university to obtain a degree in secondary education.
