Flenniken plans summer events

CARMICHAELS – Reading in the summer is a great way to help keep your kids at the top of their class, or to help them get ahead.

The Summer Reading Program at Flenniken Library encourages summer learners to Fizz, Boom Read! Registration will begin June 2 for the six weekly sessions that start the week of June 16. During these weeks lunch is available for free for all kids 18 and under from 11:45 to 12:45. Some other special programs include:

• Register by June 6 for a program on financial aid on June 9. The program is being presented by a representative from PHEAA.

• Dr. John Pretz will be at the library at 5 p.m. June 13 for a discussion of dark matter. He will demonstrate a simple particle detector, a cloud chamber built from household components and will describe how modern particle detectors work.

• On June 17, the library will be planting Tiny Tim Tomato plants to take home, with help of Master Gardeners.

• Authors will visit in June. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 21, the authors of “Clutch, the Trucking Cat,” will visit, followed from 5 to 7 p.m. June 23 by Carmichael’s author Billie Allen who will be signing her new book.

• On July 17, a pool party will be held at Wana B Park.
