Outbound Fort Pitt Tunnel closing this weekend

1 min read

The outbound Fort Pitt Tunnel will be closed to traffic this weekend so crews can remove ceiling tiles. The closure will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue until 6 a.m. Monday.

All traffic will be detoured and signs will be posted to guide drivers.

The inbound tunnel will remain open, although there may be some short-term stoppages for equipment access and material removal.

There will be eight, full weekend closures during the project. Closures will be scheduled to minimize impacts on downtown events.

Additional traffic restrictions will occur during off-peak hours and weekends, Overnight single-lane closures will occur in each tunnel starting in January. There will be four weekend evening full closures of the tunnel.

The $14.17 million project includes the removal of tunnel ceiling, relocation of cameras and temperature monitors, electrical and other updates as well as milling and resurfacing.
