Area FFA holds fall harvest festival
ROGERSVILLE – West Greene FFA Chapter hosted the school’s annual fall harvest festival, and event originating from the agricultural community celebrating a successful harvest season.
That is exactly what the West Greene FFA Chapter does each year on the high school’s football field.
The tradition started when the students cooked a batch of apple butter in November. Over time, students began to add other items to promote agriculture and the FFA and to educate the school on agricultural products.
Other school organizations started to get involved in the event and eventually it became a three-hour festival.
This year, the chapter cooked a pot of apple butter and roasted 90 chickens, selling them during the event.
In addition, the students held a ladder toss game and a “Kiss the Goat” competition, in which students donated money to see their teacher of choice kiss an agriculture student’s goat. The money from the ladder toss and Kiss the Goat events was donated to the American Cancer Society.
