Peace poster contest winner announced

WAYNESBURG – Bailee St. Clair, a seventh-grade student at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, was recognized Tuesday during the Central Greene school board meeting as the first-place winner for the local level of the Lions Clubs International Peace Poster contest offered through the Waynesburg Lions Club.

Lions Clubs International has sponsored the Peace Poster contest for 25 years to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people.

Posters submitted from youth ages 11-13 from nearly 100 countries were evaluated on three criteria: originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme, “Peace, Love and Understanding.”

Winning posters advance through local, district, multiple district and international judging levels At the international level, judges from the art, peace, youth, education and media communities select one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners.

The grand prize winner receives $5,000 and a trip to a special awards ceremony.

The 23 merit award winners each receive $500 and a certificate of achievement.
