Community Action seeks tutors for adults

1 min read

Community Action Southwest is seeking volunteers in the Mon Valley to tutor students in its adult education program, which is designed to assist those ages 17 and older in obtaining a General Educational Development diploma or increasing their skills so they may enroll in a trade school or college or find work.

Volunteers are needed to assist Pennsylvania-certified teachers with classes at PA CareerLink Mon Valley, Donora.

Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Training will be provided. Volunteers can tutor students in subject areas in which they are comfortable ranging from reading, writing, spelling, math, science and social studies.

Volunteers must either have a bachelor’s degree or be actively pursuing a four-year degree at a college or university.

Anyone who would like to volunteer or find out more information can contact Lori Ventura at 724-379-4750, extension 124, or email her at lventura@caswg.org.
