Meeting recap: Washington County commissioners
• Date: Oct. 2
• Action: As expected, the board approved the purchase of one acre of property from Joshua and Jennifer Bergles for $170,000 for the eventual extension of the runway at Washington County Airport, which is part of the airport master plan.
At the request of the Public Safety Department, the commissioners approved Justin M. Shawley’s and Jonathan Madara’s travel next month to Richmond, Va., for a conference. Costs are estimated at $750 per person.
At the request of the Planning Commission, the board approved temporary and permanent easements for the reconstruction of the Pike Run No. 11 bridge in California with Renee A. Medve, $1,000, and John Ventura, a total of $4,000. State taxpayers will bear 80 percent of the costs for the bridge project, while the remainder will be paid by the county’s liquid fuels allocation.
The commissioners extended for one year the county’s agreement with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development to have Washington City Mission provide tenant-based rental assistance through Sept. 30, 2016.
Rates for adult day care at the county health center will be increasing Jan. 1 in accordance with federal fees. A full day of adult day care will now cost $58.39, up from $50, and a half day of care will be $30, up from $28. The program also offers showers for attendees, and the rates for those will be $25, up from $20.
The board approved $169,503 from the state Department of Public Welfare block grant known as the Human Services Development Fund for several agencies, including Greater Washington Area Food Bank, Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services, Washington Rides paratransit program for veterans, Aging Services, Children and Youth Services and Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
All votes were unanimous.
