Women voters to host forum for candidates

2 min read

The nonpartisan League of Women Voters of Washington County is hosting a forum at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Canon-McMillan High School auditorium for candidates running in the general election.

All the candidates on the ballot Nov. 4 for state Senate District 46, and state House Districts 46 and 48 had agreed to participate, according to the league. Jason Ortitay, the Republican candidate for the 46th Legislative District, has since withdrawn from the forum to attend another campaign event.

Participating candidates for state Senate District 46 are Republican Camera Bartolotta and Democrat Timothy J. Solobay. Participating state representative candidates are Democrat Jesse White, Democrat, 46th Legislative District, and 48th Legislative District candidates, Republican Sonia Stopperich and Democrat Brandon Neuman.

Canon-McMillan High School media students will videotape the forum and the video will be made available to the public through YouTube links to be posted on the league’s website.

As a result of redistricting finalized in 2012, half of Washington County’s municipalities were placed in different state Senate or House districts. The biggest change is in the 17 municipalities that were in House districts 46, 48 and 49 but will now be in House District 15. On the state Senate side, nine municipalities have moved from the 32nd Senate District to the 46th. All of Washington County, except for Peters Township which is in District 37, will be in the same state Senatorial district.

The public will have an opportunity to submit questions. Those seeking more information can call the league at 724-228-9889 or visit its website, washingtoncounty.palwv.org.
