1 min read

Washington County officials plan to spend a total of $634,200 to expand and upgrade maintenance and equipment storage buildings at Cross Creek and Mingo Creek county parks.

The Cross Creek building on Lynn Portal Road will have 2,500 additional square feet at a cost of $278,300, while the Mingo buildings on Route 136 will have 4,050 more square feet at a cost of $355,900.

Lisa Cessna, director of Washington County Planning Commission, said oil and gas revenues from Cross Creek park will pay for the projects, which the Washington County commissioners approved the contract with Swede Construction Corp. of Elizabeth on Thursday.

Cessna and Randy Vankirk, county purchasing director, said the dollar amount includes clearing and leveling the sites so concrete pads and pole buildings can be constructed. Amenities such as a restroom and heating will be new to the Cross Creek maintenance shed. The current building has only a wood-burning stove.

Construction by is expected to begin this fall, with completion of the projects contingent on weather.
