Brownsville man arrested in assault
A Brownsville man was arrested early Sunday by California police after he allegedly assaulted a man who was at the home of his estranged wife.
Brian J. Sheridan, 42, of 214 Telegraph St., is accused of assaulting Jeff Fetty of West Brownsville at the home of Melissa Sheridan, 628 Wood St. Police were called about 2 a.m. for a report of a man bleeding following a disturbance. While they were en route, police spotted a man running down the street and bleeding from the face.
Police stopped and made contact with the man, identified as Fetty, and called for an ambulance. Police said Fetty was very disoriented and unsure of his surroundings.
Officers Alyssa Haines and Kristie Mammarella approached the house on Wood with California University police officers who arrived to assist.
As they approached, a second man, later identified as Sheridan, walked along the driveway toward the officers. He reportedly complied with commands to put his hands up, turn around and get on the ground. When police were checking him for weapons, they said they found him with Fetty’s cellphone.
Sheridan was placed in the back of a cruiser. Officers followed a trail of blood inside the house to the second floor. After announcing themselves and getting no response, police went back outside and found a vehicle running inside the garage. Police said they found Melissa Sheridan inside a car that had been blocked in by another vehicle.
Melissa Sheridan told police she and her husband are separated and he had not lived there for about three months. She also told police she had filed for divorce and that her estranged husband assaulted her in the past.
She told police she and Fetty were upstairs sleeping when her home’s security alarm activated and then quickly shut off.
She said she went downstairs to find her estranged husband inside the home, and it appeared he had been drinking.
When Brian Sheridan started to approached the stairs, Melissa Sheridan told police she ran up to the bedroom to waken Fetty. She said her estranged husband entered the bedroom and started to assault the West Brownsville man, hitting him in the face and head. He also allegedly threatened to kill Fetty.
Fetty was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Brian Sheridan was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of aggravated assault, burglary, loitering and prowling at night, theft, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment, harassment and two counts of simple assault. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 20 before District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
