Waynesburg U. director moves into new position
WAYNESBURG – The Rev. Carolyn Poteet, Waynesburg University’s director of faith and mission, will move into the new position of director of international programs as the university works to increase global literacy for its students.
“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to, once again, use my international experience to bless the Waynesburg community and deepen our relationships with God’s people around the world,” Poteet said.
With her experience at World Vision, an international, Christian humanitarian organization, combined with her familiarity with Waynesburg University, Poteet brings to her new position a strong background in international outreach as well as a vital understanding of the mission of Waynesburg University.
“Focusing on international opportunities is one of the priorities in our strategic plan,” said Mary Cummings, vice president for student services at the university. “Rev. Poteet’s international experience, coupled with her passion for the mission of Waynesburg University, makes her the perfect choice to effectively represent the university at various schools and organizations abroad. She brings broad international experience having worked in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.”
For several years, Poteet worked for World Vision, an organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
She developed and managed grant-funded programming as an international program development officer for World Vision. Poteet acquired more than $100 million in funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development, World Food Program, UNHCR and UNICEF through her grant-proposals.
Poteet is an ordained Presbyterian minister and previously served as the associate pastor and minister for Christian education and young families at the First Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville, N.C.
The Rev. James Tinnemeyer, who joined the university as the director of the center for leadership and Christian ministry in July, will now also serve as the university chaplain.
