Investigation in fatal Union crash continues
Southwest Regional police are continuing their investigation into a three-vehicle crash last week in Union Township in which a Venetia woman was killed and two others were injured.
Stacy R. Smith, 47, of Venetia Road, Eighty Four, was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple injuries. Her passenger, Michael Sullivan, 45, also of Venetia Road, Eighty Four, was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. A hospital spokeswoman said Friday morning he was in stable condition.
The driver of a second vehicle, Edward Shipe, 52, of Pleasant Street, South Park, was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was released Saturday. The driver of the third vehicle, Justin H. Reed, 36, of Churchill Road, Venetia, and his passenger, Alan Hamilton Jr., 21, of Highland Avenue, Finleyville, were not injured, police said.
Police said Smith was driving her car south on Route 88 north of Airport Road, and a car operated by Reed was behind her. Shipe was traveling north in a sport utility vehicle.
Police Chief John Hartman said police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests as well as the report from the state police accident reconstruction specialist. He said no decision has been made as to whether any charges will be filed.
Hartman said Reed and Hamilton left the accident scene but were identified and located. Police have interviewed both.
Also assisting at the scene were firefighters from Finleyville and Elrama and Jefferson Hills Ambulance.
