Paranormal party planned in Chartiers Township
The ghosts themselves will probably be keeping their distance, but people who seek them out will be celebrating their preoccupation today at a Chartiers Township Halloween bash sponsored by Western Pennsylvania Paranormal Hunters.
The organization’s annual Halloween party, which will get going at 7 p.m. at Chartiers Township Social Hall at 2504 W. Pike St., features appearances this year by three stars of reality TV series that deal with the paranormal and things that go bump in the night.
About 200 to 250 people are expected to attend, according to T.J. Porfeli, an Eighty Four resident who works for a computer software company in Green Tree. Wearing a costume is encouraged but not required. A disc jockey will be there, as will a replica of the “Drag-U-La” coffin car that was seen on “The Munsters” television series, along with Blues Brothers impersonators who call themselves the Shotgun Blues Brothers. It’s a family-friendly, all-ages event, Porfeli said.
Two of the guests hail from series on the Syfy Channel: Bruce Tango, a retired police officer from New Jersey, is an investigator on “Ghost Hunters,” the 10-year-old series that tries to suss out ghosts in places that are said to be haunted; and Brett McGinnis, from the spinoff series, “Ghost Hunters Academy,” who hails from the Pittsburgh area and is a “cadet” on the series.
The third guest, Heather Taddy, appeared on A&E’s “Paranormal State,” which ran from 2007 to 2011 and followed Penn State’s Paranormal Research Society as they tried to track down specters and spirits.
Porfeli founded Western Pennsylvania Paranormal Hunters with a friend almost seven years ago after watching “Ghost Hunters.” “We were talking about paranormal experiences and we went out and decided to go out and look for them on our own,” he said.
