PITTSBURGH (AP) — The upcoming homicide trial of a former University of Pittsburgh medical researcher figures to be a battle of medical experts.

Pitt law professor John Burkoff says 65-year-old Dr. Robert Ferrante must find a way to counter evidence that his wife died of cyanide poisoning just days after he bought a half pound of the stuff using his school-issued credit card.

Police say Ferrante laced 41-year-old Dr. Autumn Klein’s energy drink with the poison in April 2013 and that she died three days later.

Ferrante, through his attorneys, has maintained he had nothing to do with her death and remains “devastated” by it.

Jury selection begins Tuesday in the courtroom of Allegheny County President Judge Jeffrey Manning.
