W.Va. dad sentenced for not paying child support

1 min read

WELCH, W.Va. – A West Virginia man will spend more than four years in prison for failing to pay more than $87,000 in back child support.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reported 43-year-old Carl Hazzard of Princeton pleaded guilty in September 2013 to four counts of failure to pay child support. He received probation.

Legal secretary Joy Lamb with the McDowell County prosecutor’s office told the newspaper a condition of the probation required Hazzard to get a job and begin paying the back child support.

A McDowell County Circuit Court judge recently revoked Hazzard’s probation because he failed to get a job. Hazzard received four consecutive one-year sentences.

Lamb said Hazzard received an additional 10-day sentence for contempt because he cursed during the probation revocation hearing.
