1 min read

WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg woman was charged after police were called to investigate a report of a toddler sitting alone on a street corner.

Charges of endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct were filed against Mary Ann McChesney, 34, of 311 Naser St., who was identified by police as the child’s mother.

Waynesburg Borough police officer Lisa Sowden said the toddler, who is about 2 years old, was found by a passing motorist at Greene and South Morris streets about 6 p.m. Sept. 29. Sowden said the motorist and another individual waited with the child for approximately 10 minutes to see if anyone would come looking for her and then called police.

The child was uninjured except for a couple of cuts on her arm. She was taken into protective custody by the county’s Children and Youth Services.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. Nov. 19 before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Lou Dayich.
