Big ad buys by Dem, GOP groups in Casey-Mooney bid
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Democratic and Republican congressional campaign groups have secured six-figure TV ad buys in the contest between Democrat Nick Casey and Republican Alex Mooney.
Media buys show that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee purchased $600,000 in ads for the 2nd Congressional District race homestretch.
The National Republican Congressional Committee bought $250,000 in ads for the final weeks.
Neither group previously bought TV ads in the race. The Democratic committee did split one bill on commercials bought by Casey.
The late infusion of party money usually indicates a competitive race.
The American Conservative Union says it also recently bought $350,000 worth of ads bashing Casey.
Last year, Mooney moved to West Virginia from Maryland, where he was a state senator and Republican Party chairman. Casey was the West Virginia Democratic Party chairman.
