A half-dozen office workers were evacuated from the Professional Plaza, 625 Route 88, in North Charleroi after smoke filled one of its suites at about 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The smoke was traced to a smoldering box that wasplaced on an electric range that had a burner set on low, a Lock 4 Fire Company officer said.

Workers were permitted to return and firefighters left the scene at about noon.
