Convenience store robbed at gunpoint
North Franklin Township police are looking for an armed man wearing camouflage paint on his face and dressed in camouflage who robbed the Valero at 1390 W. Chestnut St. about 11:15 a.m. Monday.
The store manager told township police Chief Ron Fox the man walked in, asking for a carton of cigarettes. The manager told him he did not have a carton but could give him 10 packs, to which the suspect agreed.
After the manager put the cigarettes on the counter, the robber demanded money from the register. The manager told police he thought the man was joking, and told him the cigarettes would be $64. The robber then repeated himself and showed a black gun he had hidden under his coat.
The manager handed over some money. The robber grabbed the cash, a few packs of cigarettes and ran out the door.
Fox said there were no customers inside the store at the time. Surveillance video at Rite Aid, located just behind the Valero, shows a dark red or burgundy pickup truck, possibly a Ford Ranger, pull into the lot at 11:10 a.m. and leave at 11:18 a.m., turning onto Franklin Farms Road.
There is a six-minute gap from the time he parks until the time he enters the store,” Fox said. “I think he was waiting for the store to clear before going inside.”
Fox said video surveillance shows the robber entering the store at 11:16 a.m., although police did not get the call until 11:19 a.m.
Anyone in the area who might have seen the suspect or vehicle is asked to call police at 724-228-9610.
