Teen charged after knife incident

1 min read

PITTSBURGH – A 15-year-old girl was taken into custody after Pittsburgh Public Schools officials said she picked up a steak knife in a teachers lounge at Oliver Citywide Academy and refused to surrender the weapon until school police arrived.

District spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said the special education student is being charged in juvenile court with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct in connection with Wednesday morning’s incident.

Pugh said the girl didn’t threaten or injury anyone, but a teacher in the room felt at risk.

She may face additional school sanctions.

Pugh said the girl took the knife from a table and waited until the officer arrived from another part of the building before handing it to a school administrator.

Oliver Citywide Academy serves about 130 special education students from throughout Pittsburgh.
