Third-degree murder conviction in car wash slaying
EBENSBURG (AP) – A man has been convicted of third-degree murder in the stabbing death of his estranged girlfriend at a Western Pennsylvania car wash a year ago.
Jurors in Cambria County deliberated for a little more than four hours before reaching a verdict in the trial of 22-year-old Demetrius Gibson of Johnstown.
Prosecutors were seeking a first-degree murder conviction in the August 2013 slaying of 21-year-old Elizabeth Ann Miller in the parking lot of the Dollar Car Wash in Johnstown.
Jurors also convicted Gibson of aggravated assault and reckless endangering but acquitted him of another aggravated assault count.
Defense attorney Thomas Dickey said he had hoped for another outcome but was glad that his client wouldn’t face a life term.
Prosecutors said the victim’s family was pleased with the verdict.
