Police: Man intentionally crashes

1 min read

State police said an elderly Washington man tried to commit suicide late Thursday afternoon by driving his car head-on into a tri-axle truck on Route 844 (Jefferson Avenue) in Hopewell Township.

Police said Joseph Muncie, 86, of Washington, was traveling west on Route 844 about 5 p.m. when he deliberately swerved across the center line in the area of 4610 Jefferson Ave. and hit a truck driven by 61-year-old Randolph Larson of Huntington, who was headed east. Muncie reportedly told police he was trying to kill himself.

Muncie was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He also was being evaluated for a mental health commitment. Larson was not hurt, but police said he was clearly shaken by the wreck.

Police said today they are investigating and still have not decided whether to file charges against Muncie.
