First of three gas wells goes into production at W.Va. State
INSTITUTE, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia State University expects to save $100,000 a year by using natural gas underneath its campus.
One of three natural gas wells planned on the school’s Institute campus began production last week. The Charleston Daily Mail reports that Spencer-based Reserve Oil & Gas is drilling the second well. The third well is expected to be drilled by the end of the year.
University spokeswoman Kimberly Osborne tells the newspaper that the wells are located in areas that aren’t being used.
The wells are expected to supply all of the university’s natural gas needs. If winter demand exceeds the supply, Osborne says the university can obtain natural gas from a contractor service.
