Student accused of assaulting officer

2 min read

A student at California University of Pennsylvania was arrested early Friday by university police after she allegedly assaulted an officer called for a report of a domestic dispute at a dormitory room.

Destini Joy Chisolm, 19, of Blairsville, is accused of punching and kicking Officer Jaimie Quintero, who responded to a reported domestic incident about 4 a.m. in a room at Resident Hall A.

While another officer was talking with a male suspect in the incident, Quintero was told Chisolm returned. She reportedly admitted she had consumed alcohol, so the officer intended to cite her for underage drinking.

When she was told she was not free to leave until the officer could obtain her information for the citation, she allegedly became belligerent and disorderly.

Quintero attempted to place Chisolm in restraints in order to take to her a secure area where he could issue the citation, and she allegedly assaulted the officer.

After he restrained her, she continued to yell expletives and tried to kick Quintero as he led her out of the room, police said. When he held her against a wall to get a better grip on her, Chisolm allegedly turned and spit in the officer’s face.

Christine Kindl, a spokeswoman for the university, said Chisolm also will face judicial proceedings at the school.

Chisolm was arraigned on three counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and one count each of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, harassment and underage drinking before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 15 before Kanalis.
