Central Greene to raise money for scholarships with trivia contest

3 min read

WAYNESBURG – Central Greene School District Educational Association will host its second annual trivia contest at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 at Waynesburg Central High School to raise scholarship money for students in the school district.

Anyone who is looking for an opportunity to display the vast array of useless information they have gathered in their lifetime is encouraged to form a team.

Teams entering the competition will have the opportunity to play for their favorite charity with prizes of $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. The prize amounts are subject to the amount of teams entering the competition and will be officially announced at the competition.

Teams are to have a minimum of four players and a maximum of eight.

All proceeds above the prize money award will go to the CGEA Scholarship Fund. This fund currently offers a single scholarship to a Waynesburg Central High School student. Money for this fund are contributed through donations by the teachers in the district.

However, it is the belief of the CGEA that all students deserve the opportunity to attend college regardless of cost. The goal of the Central Greene Raiders Scholarship Trust is to provide this opportunity to more students. Through the success of the trivia contest the organization hopes to offer multiple scholarship awards in the district.

Organizers expect the event to again draw more than 100 people. Scores will be projected onto a large screen that will be updated in real time during the contest. A second screen will run continuously with sponsors, sponsored advertisements, and those who donate to the scholarship trust directly. These patrons will be listed as “Friends for the Future.”

The Central Greene Relay for Life team will hold a bake sale during the competition. The team is requesting donations of baked goods that will also be acknowledged on the screen.

The cost to enter a team in the contest is $30 per player for teams of four and $25 per player for teams of five or more. There is a spectator charge of $10 per person. To enter a team, send one check for the entire team with the team name on the memo line with a separate sheet listing the individual team members. The check and team list are due by 5:45 p.m. on the day of competition.

Checks are to be made payable to CGEA Scholarship, c/o Central Greene Education Association, P.O. Box 269, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
