Sidewalk project awarded grant

1 min read

A project that will install more than 1,800 feet of new sidewalk along Dunn Avenue in Washington has been awarded a $95,000 state grant.

The grant will cover the majority of the estimated $135,000 cost to install sidewalks that will connect East Maiden Street to the Washington Park, the Washington Park School and the Vernon Neal Sportsplex.

The grant was announced by state Sen. Tim Solobay, D-Canonsburg, and state Rep. Brandon Neuman, D-North Strabane Township.

“Across Pennsylvania, walkable downtowns have been a driver of economic development and job growth in areas that have seen decline,” Solobay said. “I am pleased to support local efforts that will allow pedestrians to access recreation facilities more easily.”

Solobay and Neuman urged state officials to invest in the improvements through the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.

“This project will provide a substantial improvement to pedestrian access and safety when walking to Washington Park,” Neuman added.

Washington is already working to restore Washington Park Pond to a beautiful water amenity and submitted an application to the Department of Community and Economic Development for assistance with a walking trail around the pond and connecting with other trails.
