US border agency’s misconduct review advances
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The agency that oversees the U.S. Border Patrol says 155 cases of use of force and alleged misconduct merit further investigation.
Mark Morgan, who heads Customs and Border Protection’s internal affairs office, said Friday that he has no timeline to complete the review and doesn’t know how much detail will be released on individual cases. One case resulted in a death.
CBP reviewed 809 cases dating back to 2009. They include most of the 67 cases of use of deadly force that are addressed in a highly critical, government-commissioned report released this year.
Morgan is a longtime FBI official who was named to the job on an interim basis in June amid criticism that authorities use excessive force and the agency is slow to investigate.
