Wellness programs planned
WAYNESBURG – This fall, Waynesburg University students will conduct health and wellness education in the second-floor lobby of Southwest Regional Medical Center.
This free health education is being offered to provide valuable health education and information to community members and employees of the hospital. The education will focus on prevalent health conditions such as heart health, lung health and healthy eating.
The dates, topics and students in charge are as follows:
• Today, Chest pain and stroke, Erin Hathaway and Alexis Lapinsky
• Oct. 6, Go RED campaign for heart disease, Sara Spicher and Casey Hoover
• Oct. 20, Breast cancer awareness, Ashley Garver and Diedre Yeager
• Oct. 24, Breast cancer awareness, Carrie Sneller and Brittany Buljat
• Oct. 27, Obesity-adult and childhood, Melissa Brown and Kathryn Kish
• Oct. 31, Diabetes, Carly Stevens and Zac Allen
• Nov. 7, To be determined, Danielle Murphy and Sam Cross
• Nov. 14, Smoking cessation and smokeless tobacco nicotine replacement and E-cigs, Brittany Rhea and Sun Schoyer
• Nov. 18, To be determined, Danielle Zeiler and Allison Koleny
• Nov. 21, Holidays: Depression and mood disorders, Sarah Hutchinson and Alyssa Ehlert
Students will be available from 8:30 a.m. until noon on each of the days noted.
The students are seniors enrolled in clinical prevention and population health taught by Melany D. Chrash.
“The purpose of the program is to help students put their knowledge to use in proactive ways so they can better understand the importance of education and prevention,” said Chrash.
Each week will have a particular focus and set of students to present the information. They will have educational displays, information and be available to answer questions. Anyone wishing to stop by and talk with them can do so during the noted times.
