The council advises the school board and administration on recommendations for curriculum evaluation and revision.
In other business, the board:
• Granted a maternity leave to Margaret Bell Miller Middle School teacher Jillian McGowan to take effect on or about Oct. 20 and continue to approximately Jan. 20.
• Granted tenure to high school guidance counselor Kelsey Tate and middle school art teacher Kristen Venturino.
• Accepted the resignation of Brian Eisiminger as the National Honor Society co-sponsor for the high school and named Ramonda Lipscomb as a co-sponsor. Superintendent Brian Uplinger said the other co-sponsor position is currently vacant and he is continuing to seek an individual to fill this spot.
Board member Roberta Boyd said there is definitely a need for a second sponsor with the amount of work that is involved.
• Approved Nikki Shriver as the percussion coordinator for the band. Uplinger told the board this position is similar to that of an assistant coach for an athletic team. Board member Bridget Montgomery said there is much more to leading a drum line today than it was historically and there is a definite need for such a position.
• Approved John Garber as the head varsity girls’ basketball coach. Garber had been serving as the assistant coach.
