The Washington County Airport’s final phase of airfield paving is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Friday, resulting in the closure of Runway 09-27 for 24 hours.

After the runway is open, various taxiways will be closed.

On Friday, crews will be rejuvenating several areas and making pavement repairs to areas along Bravo and Delta taxiways.

The Bravo taxiway area will not be accessible until mid-morning Saturday.

Crews will continue work Saturday on Alpha Taxiway and the north apron.

This area will not be available for access until late Sunday morning.

On Sunday, crews will complete the rejuvenation of Delta taxiway and the untreated areas near the “B” T-hangars.

This area will not be available for aircraft movements until late Monday morning. Crews will be working on center lines and installing hold bars on the already completed areas of the airport. Those areas, however, will be accessible by aircraft, and the crews will move to allow access as necessary.

Also Monday, painting crews will complete Delta taxiway markings, also accommodating aircraft movements.

“While we are hopeful that weather won’t be an issue, if we experience rain then the project will need to be delayed by 24 hours.

As we get closer to Friday, we will let everyone know if we anticipate any weather delays, especially for the runway closure,” wrote Scott Gray, executive director of Washington County Airport, in an email.

Over the summer, the Washington County commissioners awarded a $275,401 contract to T.A. Robinson Asphalt Paving Inc., Pittsburgh, at the request of the Washington County Redevelopment Authority, which oversees the airport, to repair pavement.

The project will be paid for through an allocation from the Local Share Account of gambling revenue from The Meadows Casino, according to the county purchasing department.

Gray called completion of all airfield pavement repairs and rehabilitation this year the airport’s “highest priority.”
