Motivational assembly planned at West Greene
Rocky Bleier, co-chairman and a Quarterback of Life of the Beating the Odds Foundation, will speak at 9 a.m. Wednesday to students at West Greene Middle-Senior High School as part of a motivational assembly program.
Bleier, a former Pittsburgh Steeler, and Rocco Scalzi, founder and president of Beating the Odds Foundation, will talk to the students about their own success stories and the importance of having a dream, setting goals, overcoming obstacles and most importantly, never giving up.
This is the first year that these middle and high school students will be participating in the Quarterbacks of Life Student Success and Leadership Program, under the leadership of Superintendent Thelma Szarell and Principal Scott Sakai.
The program expansion is part of the Beating the Odds Foundation’s initiative for all school districts in Greene County to be participants in the program.
The program is made possible through Baily Insurance Agency, Staunton Farm Foundation, First Commonwealth Bank and Greene County Drug & Alcohol.
Beating the Odds Foundation is a motivational charity founded in 1990 by Scalzi, a former Altoona police officer.
The Quarterbacks of Life Student Success and Leadership Program is an educationally relevant, interactive, and resilience building support system that functions in partnership with the school’s academic and student growth initiatives and is designed to help students achieve success in school and life in the face of everyday life challenges and hardships.
In addition to teachers, the Quarterbacks of Life Student Success and Leadership Program relies on the support of some very special people, men and women, who are standouts in the way they conduct their lives and lead by example.
These role models, called Quarterbacks of Life, offer hope and words of inspiration and encourage students to achieve success in their own lives.
