Pennsylvania mom faces sentence in tub drowning

1 min read

INDIANA (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania woman was set for sentencing in the death of her 13-month-old son, who drowned while he was bathing unattended with two toddler siblings.

Twenty-seven-year-old Tonya Thomas of White Township in Indiana County was due in court Monday. She was convicted in June of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and three counts of endangering the welfare of children.

Prosecutors say she left Ryden Thomas and his 2- and 3-year-old siblings unattended in the bathtub and later found him face-down in the water in February 2013.

The boy’s father, Wesley Thomas, has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment and was sentenced to three months to two years in prison.
