Suspect in North Strabane sexual assault waives case to court
A Westmoreland County man accused of sexually assaulting a girl over a six-year period waived his case to court at a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
Richard Michael Meglaye, 35, was arrested last week by North Strabane Township police on charges of aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault of a person younger than 13; aggravated indecent assault; indecent assault; involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person younger than 16; statutory sexual assault and intimidation of a witness and two counts of corruption of minors.
The alleged sexual assaults began in 2008 when the girl was about 11 and continued through July.
In exchange for the waiver, District Judge Joshua Kanalis agreed to reduce Meglaye’s bond from $100,000 to $25,000. As a condition of the bond, Meglaye is to live with his mother in Greensburg if he is released from Washington County Jail. He also is to have no contact with the girl, her family or with any children.
