North Strabane supervisors approve second Marcellus well
North Strabane Township supervisors Tuesday unanimously approved the second Marcellus Shale natural gas well pad in the township, although the approval includes a long list of conditions.
The vote included 18 conditions for Range Resources, which plans to drill the well on Donald and Elizabeth Henderson’s property at 207 Ross Road in Eighty Four.
Some of the conditions include the stabilization and paving of Ross Road before drilling, and excavation of a hillside along the road to improve sight lines near the pad’s entrance. The company also must build a 10-foot-tall sound barrier on the northern side of the well pad.
The township supervisors granted Range an additional hour of grading work that will allow workers on-site from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. during preparation of the site. Also, the company is permitted to locate temporary trailers on the site to keep crews overnight, although it must pay the township $1,000 per month for each trailer.
Drilling activities are expected to begin in January with five wells planned for the site.
